Rentaro first meets the Ryokan's newest guest, Nancy Drew, as she attempts to enter the baths at the Ryokan Hiei. Although they fought often, he and Miwako eventually began dating. He spent most of his time at the ryokan and soon used his mechanical and technological skills to become its handyman of sorts. The girls' mother, Kasumi, made her daughters play nice after that and eventually, he grew on them. He followed Miwako and her older sister Yumi around everywhere until one day, Miwako snapped and punched him, hard. Rentaro and his father moved next door to the Ryokan Hiei when he was seven and Miwako was five. Players can bump into Rentaro the first time they try to go into the male Ryokan's baths, and then he can be found working in the shed in the gardens. He dreams of one day moving to the city with Miwako, but she is too tied to the inn to move. Rentaro can be annoying, but in an endearing way and is a friendly person. His goofy and quirky personality sometimes annoys the Shimizus, but for the most part they get along. He is into electronics, and bought a robotic cat, Suki, for Miwako and is working to create a robotic dog to go with it. Longtime friend and neighbor of the Shimizu's, Rentaro is also Miwako's boyfriend and the ryokan's handyman.
